A 2.61-mile loop through the canyons and open spaces of Scripps Ranch, starting and ending at Jerabek Park. Hilly in many places, but no mountains to climb. About a half mile is on sidewalks.

We've never done this particular hike before, but on January 21, 2021 we did a similar, longer hike in the canyons north of Jerabek Park. This hike will overlap that one. For details see https://www.meetup.com/sandiegodayhikers/events/275414627/

We also did another Scripps Ranch hike called the Doctors Loop on November 19, 2020. This hike does not overlap that one, but it comes close at one point. For details see https://www.meetup.com/sandiegodayhikers/events/274622584/

Leashed dogs are allowed.

NOTICE THE EARLIER STARTING TIME to beat the summer heat.

Meet at 8:30 AM in the parking lot in Jerabek Park, 10150 Avenida Magnifica in the Scripps Ranch neighborhood of San Diego (N 32 54.615 W 117 4.959). At 8:45 AM we'll step off.

SUGGESTED ROUTE FROM SAN DIEGO: Go north on I-15 and take the exit for Miramar Road and Pomerado Road. Go east approximately two miles on Pomerado Road, and turn left (north) on Avenida Magnifica. Jerabek Park will be on your left, about a half-mile north of Pomerado Road.

The trails are mostly hard-packed dirt, but with some steep and rocky places. Wear good hiking shoes and suitable clothing. Hiking poles will be helpful in a few places. Use sun protection. There is some shade in the canyons, but most of the trees are eucalyptus trees, which do not have dense foliage.

No lunch stop is planned, but you might want to take a snack. Drinking water and rest rooms are available at Jerabek Park. You may want to picnic in the park after the hike.

COVID: Face masks are no longer required outdoors. But take a face mask anyway, just in case.
