Ellie Lane Loop
Details
Approximately 6 miles on a loop trail near Poway. Moderately strenuous with about 1200 feet of elevation gain. Nearest facilities 0.69 miles away at Iron Mountain trailhead.
In the first mile, the trail takes goes up a hillside littered with huge, weathered granite boulders that will remind you of Mt. Woodson, which looms to the north. As you near the top of a ridge, there is a feature known as Table Rock, which looks like a stone table. There is an excellent view of the ocean on a clear day.
We've done this hike (or a very similar one) before. For details, including pictures, see

We'll meet at 9:00 AM at the Ellie Lane Trailhead parking area on Highway 67 next to Ellie Lane. (N 32° 59.254' W 116° 58.617') and start hiking at 9:15am. We should return to the trailhead around 1:00 PM.
SUGGESTED ROUTE FROM SAN DIEGO:
Distance from downtown San Diego: 32 miles. Allow 40 minutes. Go east on Interstate 8 and then north on Highway 67 roughly 14 miles. You might want to stop briefly at the parking area next to Poway Rd. to use the restroom. Continue north 0.69 miles to the other parking area at the intersection of Ellie Lane.
Wear good hiking shoes and layered clothing, use sun protection, and take ample water. We will rest at a scenic overlook of Ramona. Take a camera if you wish.

AT&T coverage throughout the hike.
Leashed dogs are allowed.
This hike was posted by Philip Erdelsky. However, I have been summoned for jury service this week, and I might not be able to hike. Nick Burke has offered to lead the hike if that happens. He led the hike in 2016.
If both leaders are present, and the group is large, we may be able to split the group, with one half returning by a shorter alternate route.
A trail map has been posted (under the title "Iron Mountain") at http://www.efghmaps.com/parks/
