Wildwood Glen Lane
Details
This is a hike on the abandoned part of Old Highway 80 near Descanso that is now called Wildwood Glen Lane, an easy out-and-back hike of about 3.3 miles round trip. As an encore, some hikers may want to hike up an adjacent hill for a better view. It was inspired by a Youtube video whose title screen is shown above. We did this hike on February 10, 2022. The weather was good, except that it was very WINDY. For details see www.meetup.com/sandiegodayhikers/events/283751698
We can hope for less windy weather on May 14. The forecast looks good so far.
We'll meet at 9:30 AM at the west end of the publicly accessible part of Wildwood Glen Lane (N 32 50.470 W 116 37.859). There is a parking area there. At 9:45 AM we'll step off.
SUGGESTED ROUTE FROM SAN DIEGO: Go east on Interstate 8, and exit at Highway 79. Turn left and go north about 0.85 miles and turn left into Wildwood Glen Lane. Follow it approximately 0.88 miles to the locked gate.
We will hike the Wildwood Glen Lane all the way to the west end, where the road was cut off by construction on Interstate 8. Many years ago, I drove this part in a 4WD truck, before it was closed to vehicle traffic.
After we return, I hope to ascend the hill north of Wildwood Glen Lane for a better view. This part of the hike will be optional.
Parts of Wildwood Glen Lane are overgrown, and the trails up the hill are steep, so long pants and hiking shoes are recommended. Use sunscreen, and take some water. No restrooms, but plenty of bushes. Take a camera if you wish.
Leashed dogs are allowed.
