This is a five-mile loop around part of Mission Bay, one of the hikes in Jerry Schad's posthumous book 50 Best Short Hikes San Diego. The forecast is for more hot weather, so we're staying near the coast until temperatures cool.

The starting point is in the large parking lot near Sunset Point and next to West Mission Bay Dr. just northeast of the intersection with Dana Landing Rd. and Quivira Rd. The parking lot has no street address, but the nearby Dana Hotel & Marina is at 1710 Dana Landing Rd, San Diego, CA 92109. MTS bus 8 stops nearby.

SUGGESTED ROUTE FROM SAN DIEGO: Go west on I-8 and exit at West Mission Bay Dr. Follow the signs through Mission Maze to West Mission Bay Dr. Turn right toward Dana Landing at the traffic light and left into the parking lot.

The paths are paved, so good walking shoes are recommended. Take water, snack, a hat & sunscreen. Dogs are not allowed at some places on this walk. Restrooms at the starting point and midway through the hike. Only about 50 feet of elevation change on bridges.
