Details

This is a fairly easy moderately paced out-and-back walk along the shores of San Diego Bay and the Liberty Station inlet. The total distance should be about 4 miles, entirely level except for one small bridge. Wear good walking shoes. The hike is entirely on pavement, except for one very short stretch under N. Harbor Dr.

We've done this hike before, most recently on March 5, 2024. For details, see www.meetup.com/sandiegodayhikers/events/299575756.

We will meet at Liberty Station and walk to the Annette Bloch Cancer Survivors Park and back. Free parking is available in Liberty Station, but there is now a fee for parking in Spanish Landing Park near the Cancer Survivors Park.

Meet at 9:30 AM next to Gun Platform Number 1, a prominent monument on Cushing Road in Liberty Station, between Dewey Road and Roosevelt Road, and opposite Ingram Plaza (N 32 44.19 W 117 12.75). There are two off-street parking lots nearby, and also some on-street parking. There are restrooms nearby. At 9:45 AM we'll start to hike.

SUGGESTED ROUTE: Follow Interstate 8 west and exit onto Rosecrans St. From Rosecrans St. turn left into Roosevelt Rd. and follow it to Cushing Rd.

Some sights along the way are:

  1. submarine monuments
  2. USS Recruit, a ship formerly used to train sailors
  3. Cancer Survivors Park
