Lake Poway from Blue Sky
Details
5.5 miles 550ft ascent. No hazards.
Description:
A hilly hike along Green Valley Truck Trail through Blue Sky Ecological Reserve up to Lake Poway, then a loop around the lake and back through Blue Sky. We last visited here on 3/25. https://www.meetup.com/sandiegodayhikers/events/306776036
The dam is owned by the City of Poway and was constructed between 1970 and 1972 with the purpose of storing and supplying water, and providing recreational facilities to the community. A $3.2-million bond issue for construction of the dam was rejected by voters in 1964 and 1966, but passed with 87 percent in favor in 1969. Year-round fishing for trout, bass, catfish, sunfish and bluegill is available at the lake.
Meet at 9:30m at the south end of Blue Sky Ecological Reserve parking on Espola Road in Poway. There are several rest rooms on this trail.
FROM SAN DIEGO: Take I-15 north and exit at Rancho Bernardo Road. Turn right and go about four miles east until it becomes Espola Road and then turns south in a sweeping right hand bend. Turn left into the parking lot and continue to the end.
