Overview: A moderate, urban walk, mostly sidewalk, but some dirt trail. Distance about 6 miles. Duration about 2:30. THIS IS NOT A CASUAL STROLL. We'll be walking briskly (about 3 mph), and the walk includes a 2.5 mile uphill stretch with 850 ft elev gain. Route map is in the Photo section below.

Route: Start in La Jolla Village. Head down to Windansea beach, then walk uphill on Nautilus past LJ High School. Take side streets Via Valverde and Via Casa Alta to top of Mt Soledad, where we will pause to enjoy the view. Downhill via Encelia Dr and LJ Heights park (dirt trail). Marvel at the Al Bahr Dr bridge. Through LJ village, then end the walk on Girard Ave, at the La Jolla Open Air Farmers Market.

Hazards: The dirt trail in LJ Heights park is steep and rocky and can be slippery, so hiking shoes and/or hiking poles may be useful. We'll walk on a few narrow streets that do NOT have sidewalks, so we'll need to be alert for cars.
