La Jolla Shores to Blacks Beach - Low Tide Walk
Details
Overview: Beautiful coastline walk on the beach. A moderate, urban walk: mostly sidewalk and beach. Distance about 6.5 miles. Time about 2:30. This is NOT a casual stroll: we will be walking briskly, about 3 mph; there is steep 360 foot uphill; and we'll be scrambling on rocks. Route map in "Photos" section below.
Route: Start at LJ Shores beach, walk south by Beach & Tennis Club to Marine Room, then north on the beach, passing Scripps Pier and the Mushroom Beach House. Turn inland at south end of Blacks beach and head uphill on the La Jolla Farms access road. Down LJ Shores Drive to the Birch Aquarium, to Ellentown Rd then Scripps Institute. Enjoy some of the best views in the world as we return via the Coastal Meander trail.
Start time: Meet at 8:30am, start walking promptly 8:35am.
Where: La Jolla Shores beach parking lot. Meet at main lifeguard tower.
Bring a positive attitude! This is a friendly, welcoming event. No negative energy allowed :-)
Hazards: We'll clamber over some slippery rocks between Scripps Pier and the Mushroom house: we may need to use our hands to maintain balance when going over the rocks. We are going at low tide, but there is a chance our shoes may get wet ... an extra pair of dry socks may be useful. We will be walking below some sandstone cliffs (north of Scripps pier) and rockfalls, though rare, can happen.
Parking & Restrooms: Park free in La Jolla Shores parking lot (enter from Calle Frescota). Restrooms at the parking lot at start/end of walk.
Release of liability: Attendees understand that the organizer is simply arranging the walk and is not assuming any responsibility. By clicking "Attend" button below, attendees agree to assume all risks of injury, and agree to not hold event organizer liable in any way.
