This is a five-mile loop along the streets of northern La Mesa, starting and ending at Jackson Park. It is described on the La Mesa website as "The Stride" Intermediate Route. Information and maps are available at www.cityoflamesa.us/942/City-Walks-Urban-Trails

Tuesday is expected to be a cool day, with a small chance of rain. This hike is entirely on pavement, so we can hike even if there is a little rain. We've done that before.

This is a popular hike. We've done it several times before, most recently on November 18, 2025. For details see www.meetup.com/sandiegodayhikers/events/312017497.

The hike has only one significant hill, about one block long. There is an optional side trip down a stairway and back for those who need some kind of workout.

This hike is marked by green disks on the curbs along the way. Some of the disks are hard to find and badly weathered. It is not feasible to follow the route by disks alone. We'll use a map.

We'll meet at 9:30 AM at Jackson Park, 5890 Jackson Dr., La Mesa CA 91942 (N 32 47.132 W 117 1.208), and we'll step off at 9:45 AM. The park has rest rooms and off-street parking. Overflow parking is available on the street.

SUGGESTED ROUTE FROM SAN DIEGO: Go east on I-8 and exit at exit 13B (Jackson Drive, Grossmont Blvd). Go north on Jackson Dr. 1.15 miles and turn left into Jackson Park.

Wear good walking shoes. Hiking shoes are not necessary because the hike is entirely on pavement. Take a camera if you wish. No stops are planned, but you might want to take a snack. Some sun protection is recommended (hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, etc.).

Leashed dogs are allowed.
