Balboa Park - Urban walk
Details
Overview: A moderate, urban walk, mostly sidewalk, some dirt trails. Distance about 5 miles. Duration about 2 hours. Total elev gain about 200 ft. This is NOT a casual stroll: we'll be walking briskly, about 3 mph.
Route: Still working on the exact route: see diagram below in Photos section for approximate route. Sights we'll see include: Cabrillo bridge, the Old Globe theater and the Botanical garden. The fountain and through the rose garden, then across Florida Dr into the eastern part of the park; ca past El Cid Campeador, Japanese Friendship garden, organ pavilion, Comic-Con museum, Pan American plaza, puppet theater, cactus garden, House of Pacific Relations International Cottages, palm canyon trail, the two Niki de Saint Phalle sculptures, and return across the Cabrillo bridge
Parking: Parking now costs $$$ at most parking spots within Balboa park. Might be some free parking on 3rd Ave and 4th Ave
Restrooms: At start/end of walk, and several places along the walk.
Start time: Meet at 8:30am, start walking promptly at 8:35am.
Where: Intersection of Balboa Dr and El Prado (west edge of Balboa park)
