Balboa Park urban walk
Details
Overview: A moderate, urban walk, mostly sidewalk, some dirt trails. Distance about 4.5 miles. Duration about 90 minutes. Total elev gain about 400 ft. Note: This is not a casual stroll!! We'll be walking at a brisk pace, about 3.2 mph, and there are some steep hills.
Route: We'll start on the west side of Balboa Park, head over Cabrillo bridge into the museum district, passing the Old Globe theater and the Botanical garden. Past the fountain and through the rose garden, then across Florida Dr into the eastern part of the park ... where we'll have an optional steep dirt hill for those that want some cardio. The turn around and head back west past El Cid Campeador, Japanese Friendship garden, organ pavilion, Comic-Con museum, Pan American plaza, puppet theater, cactus garden, House of Pacific Relations International Cottages, palm canyon trail, the two Niki de Saint Phalle sculptures, and return across the Cabrillo bridge to our starting point.

Parking: Parking meters inside Balboa Park. May be some free parking on 3rd or 4th Avenues.
Restrooms: At start/end of walk, and several places along the walk.
Start time: Meet at 8:00am, start walking promptly at 8:05am.
Bring a positive attitude! This is a friendly, diverse, inclusive event. No negative energy allowed :-)
Where: Intersection of Balboa Dr and El Prado (west edge of Balboa park)
Hazards: May be hot and humid, so bring a water bottle.
