Hatha Yoga Class
Details
The only posture mentioned in Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras is āsana, described simply as “a steady, comfortable seat.” In its origins, yoga was almost entirely a meditative process, practiced in any stable seated position. Centuries later, texts like the Haṭha Yoga Pradīpikā and the Nath tradition expanded yoga into a system of postures, breath practices, locks, and visualizations.
This evolution reflected changing lifestyles. As people became more sedentary, new methods were needed to strengthen, cleanse, and balance the body so it could truly rest in meditation. Yet most modern yoga stops at physical wellbeing, without reaching the deeper aim of yoga: transformation of consciousness.
Sangham Yoga recognizes both realities. It meets the challenges of modern life, from constant mental overstimulation to physical imbalance, while also pointing beyond them. The practice grounds and strengthens the body, calms the nervous system, and opens the doorway to yoga’s true purpose: lasting inner transformation.
