Summarizing Summarization - NLP Techniques for Long Document Representation

Details
There have recently been significant advancements in the fields of Machine Learning (ML) and Natural Language Processing/Understanding (NLP/NLU) with respect to representing the meaning
of text. In the past few years we have seen complex neural architectures surpass human-level performance on many tasks because they represent the semantic meaning of words and short documents.
However, these strategies tend to break down as the documents get longer. In this talk, we give a brief history of techniques for dealing with such long bodies of text, up to the current state-of-the-art approaches. Special focus will be given to summarization, often considered one of the most difficult tasks in the field.
About the Speakers:
Christfried Focke and Rob Sylvester are members of the Machine Learning team at LogMeIn. Their previous talks in meetups were very well received and fun to be part of.
