Manzana Trail One Day Sawyer Project
Date: Sunday, November 27, 2016 8:00 AM at NIRA Trailhead parking area
Project Objectives: Clear trees on Manzana trail from Potrero Camp to just past Horseshoe Bend. There are several tree falls including one large oak that are blocking the trail and need to be cut. Come recover from your turkey day hangover and cut some trees. Fig Mountain beer will be available at the end of the day. Bring a lunch and water.
Volunteers: We need volunteers that have crosscut saw experience. There will also be plenty of brushing and swamping so sawyer experience not required and you will get the opportunity to learn how to use a crosscut saw.
Project Schedule: We will meet at the NIRA parking area (not the campground) and hike to the large tree fall just past Horseshoe Bend to clear the largest fall. From there we will work our way back and clear all trees and some brush to Potrero Camp. Primary objective is to clear the fallen trees that are blocking the trail.
What to Know: This is a day hike trail maintenance trip. You must bring all your normal items needed for a day hike including the ten essentials and plenty of water
Food: Volunteers to provide their own lunch and trail snacks for the day.
Water: May be limited along the Manzana. Carry what you will need for the day. At least 3 liters is recommended. Bring a water filter if you have one.
Trail Tools and Personal Protection Equipment (PPE): Tools to be provided by the LPFA include Crosscut Saws, Silky Saws, McLeods, Trailsmiths (Pulaski’s), Helmets and Gloves. Please bring eye protection in the form of sunglasses or safety glasses and a helmet if you have one. You are also welcome to bring your gloves and personal tools.
Job Hazard Analysis and Volunteer Agreement: Crew leaders will review the Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) with all volunteers prior to the commencement of work. All volunteers must sign the Volunteer Agreement and will be given credit for hours worked.
