What we’re about
Calling all artists, makers, crafters, woodworkers, welders, metalworkers, artisans, sewers, craft-persons, thrifters, re-users, and recyclers. Make Santa Fe is hosting a meetup group! We're looking to engage with our maker community, introduce our space to new members, and brush shoulders with existing members & those interested in making.
Well meet at MAKE Santa Fe, a 501(c)3 non-profit community workspace where people can access tools, resources, and workshops in order to make, repair, invent or create anything they can dream. MAKE is like a gym, but with powerful tools instead of exercise equipment and skilled craftspeople instead of personal trainers. We invite you to join us and exercise your creativity.

Learn the Waterjet @ Make Santa Fe
MAKE Santa Fe, 2879 All Trades Rd, Santa Fe, NM, USRegister Here: https://makesantafe.org/events/waterjet/
Cut just about anything with the Wazer water jet. Metal, glass, ceramic, rubber and much more. Waterjets use very high pressure water combined with an abrasive material to cut through many materials other CNC machines cant. Water jets can also cut very high detail compared to a plasma cutter.
### What You’ll Learn:
- How a water jet works
- Materials that can be cut
- Preparing the Wazer for cutting
- Maintenance of the Wazer
- How to cut with the water jet
- Use various areas of the bed
- Costs associated with cutting
- Creating a cut file with Wazer software
### What’s Included:
- Material to cut
- Abrasive to cut with
### Please Note:
This class does not include file preparation or design instruction.
#### Prerequisites:
Previous experience with vector design software (like Adobe Illustrator, Affinity Designer, or Inkscape). Working knowledge of basic design concepts such as creating shapes, using layers, and setting dimensions. Basic understanding of file types, importing and exporting files, and ability to navigate windows and MacOS filesystems.
*Prerequisite: WORKSHOP – 2D Drafting for CNC ( or you can bypass this by successfully taking this short drafting test: recreate that in your preferred program and email it to build@makesantafe.org)
Basic understanding of file types, importing and exporting files, and ability to navigate windows and MacOS filesystems.
Students must be at least 16 years of age. Minors must have parental permission and signed waiver (ask us).1 attendee
Intro to Electronics & Microcontrollers
MAKE Santa Fe, 2879 All Trades Rd, Santa Fe, NM, USKick off your exploration of microcontrollers, small electrical circuits, and programming using MicroBlocks (a visual coding platform perfect for the Arduino or ESP32). This class is perfect for anyone wanting to create IOT devices, robots, remote control cars, or anything else that uses small electrical components!
Register here: https://makesantafe.org/events/intro-to-electronics-microcontrollers/
## What You Will Learn:
- Electronics Basics: An introduction to electricity and electronics including volts, amps, ohms, watts, and their relationships with a focus on how to be safe around higher voltage electricity. A short explanation of how to use a digital multimeter will also be provided, an essential tool for anybody working with electronics!
- Introduction to Microcontrollers: Understand what microcontrollers are and how they differ from other computing devices.
- Microcontroller Components: Explore the essential components of a microcontroller, including the CPU, memory, input/output pins, and more.
- Programming Microcontrollers: Learn how to write code for microcontrollers in the simplest program available: MicroBlocks! This is really easy to get the hang of incredibly fast.
- Interfacing with Sensors: Discover how to connect microcontrollers to various sensors and gather data from the physical world.
- Control and Automation: Explore how microcontrollers can control devices, automate processes, and build smart systems.
- A Hands-On Project: Get hands-on experience with microcontrollers by working on simple projects and practical exercises.
## Who Should Attend:
- Makers and DIY enthusiasts
- Electronics hobbyists
- Students interested in electronics and programming
- Engineers and professionals who are looking to add microcontroller skills to their toolkits.
- Students 16 years of age and up can be unaccompanied; ages 12-15 must have a guardian also enrolled in the class. Minors must have parental permission and a signed waiver (ask us).
### Prerequisites:
- Basic skills working with PC or Laptop, navigating using a browser.
- If you have a PC laptop with Bluetooth, bring it along. Not required- MAKE has desktop PCs.
- No programming or electronics skills are required – you’ll learn what you need in the class.
#### Please Note:
- Closed-toe shoes are required at MAKE

Learn the CNC Plasma Table
MAKE Santa Fe, 2879 All Trades Rd, Santa Fe, NM, USCutting metal by hand can be exhausting, so why not learn how to make a robot do it for you? Take your metal work to the next level as you learn to process basic vector or CAD drawings into precision-cut steel designs with our CNC plasma cutter.
Register here: https://makesantafe.org/events/cnc-plasma-table/
#### What you’ll learn:
- Fundamentals of plasma cutting and the science behind it
- Exporting files for plasma cutting
- A thorough breakdown of the components of the plasma cutter
- Consumables and replaceable parts
- Cutting capabilities of various-sized materials
- Step-by-step instructions for safely operating the machine
- Dynatorch operating software
- Guidelines for troubleshooting common errors
#### Prerequisites:
- *Prerequisite: WORKSHOP – 2D Drafting for CNC (you can bypass this by successfully taking this short drafting test: recreate that in your preferred program and email it to build@makesantafe.org)
- Previous experience with vector design software (like Adobe Illustrator, Affinity Designer, VCarve or Inkscape).
- Working knowledge of basic design concepts such as creating shapes, using layers, and setting dimensions.
- Basic understanding of file types, importing and exporting files, and ability to navigate windows and MacOS filesystems.
#### Please Note:
- Students may bring their own .dxf drawing that they would like to use; however, there is no personal file prep during this class.
- This workshop is for the CNC plasma table only. Members wishing to use other metal shop tools need to attend the metal shop badge workshop. A basic understanding of working in a metal shop is helpful but no previous experience is required.
- Students must be at least 16 years of age. Minors must have parental permission and a signed waiver (ask us).
- MAKE will provide eye protection (safety goggles), and hearing protection (ear muffs or ear plugs), respiratory protection (particle mask or respirator). Students are required to wear long-sleeve natural-fiber clothing, cotton or denim pants, and closed-toed shoes. Long hair must be pulled back.
