June 15th Theme: Your Photos, Your Camera, Carte Blanche Discussion
My idea behind this time together is to open it up to discussing any topics you feel would be useful to you as a photographer…whether you want to share a recent success or, perhaps, you want to discuss an issue you might be experiencing with particular photos or camera settings….the door will be open to discussion…Get your mimosas for this one!
To Do:
If you have a photo or two that you’d like to share with me, please send the photo(s) ahead of the meeting by Thursday, June 13th. And, if you have any particular topics of interest, give me a heads up, so that I can put some thought into it.If you are sending me photos, please remember to size them according to the following: Minimum pixel size 1024x768, 72 DPI, jpeg. Title images with your first name and IMAGE title (ex: J_DoeCoffee.jpg). Email your images AS ATTACHMENTS to Joan at zoshba@gmail.com.
As always, if there is a question or you would like to discuss this with me ahead of time, we can chat by phone (my time difference is a little nutty at the moment - please PM me) or via email @ zoshba@gmail.com
- Hidden Himalayas: a journey into the lives of Sadhus and Yogis with Thomas KellyPresbyterian Santa Fe Medical Center, Santa Fe, NM
This event will replace our June ‘Shooting Panoramas.’ We are fortunate that Photo-journalist Thomas Kelly is currently in Santa Fe between assignments in Asia and has generously accepted our invitation to join us on June 20th.
A native of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Thomas began his world travels as a Peace Corps volunteer in Nepal 1978. He has worked as a photo-activist documenting the struggles of marginalized people, Himalayan Yogis and disappearing cultural traditions around the world. Thomas has shared his nuanced worldview through work that has appeared in National Geographic, BBC, New York Times, Newsweek, and more. He is the photographer of 10 photo books and teaches community workshops fostering youth empowerment and leads photo workshops in Nepal, Tibet, India and Mongolia (Thomas led a photography workshop in Nepal for Santa Fe Workshops in 2020). Having worked and lived 44 years in Asia, he possesses a deep level of cultural knowledge and is excited to share his perspectives about Himalayan Sadhus and Yogis with the Santa Fe Photography Group.
We will embark on a pilgrimage to Nepal, India and Tibet. Sadhus are Hindu men and women renunciates (ascetics) who have renounced the material world and embraced sacred time for pilgrimage, meditation and other austerities with liberation as their goal.
Walking through the northwest district of Humla, Nepal, our pilgrimage continues with Buddhist shamans, a Bon lama and the sacred Kailas Mountain in Tibet, and we will explore the ZhangZhung forgotten kingdom.

(I would like to hear from you whether you prefer to hold our ‘shooting panoramas’ assignment for our July 18th or select another Thursday in late June or early July so that we can have another assignment for our regular July 18th meeting.)
