Joanne Fay Brown will read from her debut poetry collection, Independence Day. Brown came of age during the “McCarthy Era"; her father was blacklisted the year of her birth. Her poems reflect her experience during those historic times and show a through-line to today's political climate. Honors include Persimmon Tree Western States Poetry Contest Winner and Pinesong's Mary Ruffin Poole American Heritage Award. She is an Amherst Writers & Artists instructor, offering Write to Heal — a writing workshop for cancer patients and survivors.
Veronica Golos will read from her various poetry books: GIRL, awarded the Naji Naaman Honor Prize, 2019 (Beirut, Lebanon); Footwork, winner of the SouthwestBook Design Award in Poetry, 2016; Vocabulary of Silence, winner of the 2011 New Mexico Book Award, translated into Arabic, Spanish, and Persian; and A Bell Buried Deep, winner of the Nicholas Roerich Poetry Prize. She is on the Editorial Advisory Board the Taos Journal of Poetry, and teaches poetry for Hugo House, Gemini Ink, and SOMOS.
