Writing Workshop: The Human Sentence
Details
In a world that increasingly delegates language to machines, how do we maintain, and even reclaim, the sentence as our most sacred technology of human thought and communication? By centering form, we'll explore syntax as both a generative and recursive practice of thought, as much canvas as tool, and stage as mirror. A class for poets and prose writers at any stage of your practice, we'll balance communal close readings with discussion and brief, in-class writing prompts.
Kyle Beachy is one of very few people to have published in both The Paris Review and Thrasher Magazine. He is the author of a novel, The Slide, a memoir in essays called The Most Fun Thing, and a forthcoming Scholastic book introducing young people to the practice and philosophy of skateboarding. After two decades as a professor of English and creative writing, he left academia to work more fluidly as a writer, editorial consultant, and coach. He's received fellowships from the Breadloaf Writers Conference, The Danish Centre for Writers and Translators, and The Gray Center at The University of Chicago. He lives in Cerrillos with his wife, the poet Kristin Lueke.
