Hike to the top of Cerro Grande

This hike leads through an open forest of ponderosa, aspen, and conifers to the top of Cerro Grande (the highest point in Bandelier). You will hike on the rim of the Valles Caldera and enjoy sweeping views into the Valle Grande and beyond. Weather permitting we'll have at least 1/2 hr. on the top to rest, refuel, and enjoy those views.

The DRIVING to the trailhead is about 1 1/2 hrs. The HIKING time is 3+ hrs.
The hike is MODERATE with some short and steep parts. The total elevation gain is 1,300 ft. with the summit at 10,199 ft. The round-trip hiking distance is 4.5 miles.

THE TIME STATED ABOVE IS THE WHEN THE CARPOOLERS WILL LEAVE SANTA FE. If you choose to meet at the trailhead, be ready by 9:45am.
Suggested amount carpoolers to pay drivers is $7. ea.
CARPOOLERS: we will leave no more than 5 min. past the posted time.

Please bring food and drink, rain gear.
Dogs are not permitted in Bandelier.
