Cerro de la Olla - Pot Mountain - in Wild Rivers

Details
In the western part of the Wild Rivers section of the Rio Grande del Norte National Monument, it's a 2 1/2 hour drive from Santa Fe, 5 mile round trip to the summit, with 1,340 feet of elevation gain. Given the last hour of access is dirt road, if it is too muddy, the hike will occur on the following Saturday October 4. Alan Shapiro will be joined by Del DuBois and John Buchser to lead that expedition. Given the long driving time, it will be a long day.
It is a dormant volcano, with the middle of the summit depressed and thus catches water ('pot'). Highest summit around, thus stunning views.
Has been proposed as a wilderness by Senator Martin Heinrich several times.
Early Signups will be moved to campfire (Sierra Club outing system) once published. Subsequent signups will be via campfire.
We will meet at 8am behind Market Street on Guadalupe.
High clearance vehicles strongly recommended.
