Tetilla Peak summit hike MODERATE difficulty OFF-TRAIL
Details
Hike to the top of the distinctive local Tetilla Peak. Our entire path will be off-trail. This area is very rocky and steep as we ascend the first 1/3 and the last 1/3 of a mile to the top. This is a relatively short hike, but technical. Altogether it will be close to 2 1/2 miles RT with about 800 ft. of elevation gain.
* Moderate: final steep, rocky sections might be strenuous for some. Strenuous because of very rugged, unstable, talus-strewn, trailless surfaces and the need for good balance. Hiking poles are recommended for this terrain.
The road out to our trailhead is rutted and rocky so vehicles with some additional ground clearance are preferred. Think Subaru and similar SUVs or better.
We can carpool from the La Cieneguilla Petroglyphs parking lot. Check the map on this outing announcement page for details on this spot.
From this parking lot to our trailhead is about an eight mile (23 min.) drive on dirt roads mentioned above.
Suggested driver reimbursement is $2.
Please be on time since we won't wait more than a couple of minutes past the stated time to depart.
