White Pine ecology hike at Black Canyon

Meet 9:30am to car pool from the PERA parking lot behind the Kakawa Chocolate House, 1050 Paseo de Peralta. The hike takes approximately three hours with frequent stops to appreciate the uniqueness of graceful white pines and understand the threats they face from disease, global heating and mismanagement.

This hike is 2.5 miles with approximately 500 feet of elevation gain.
Wear appropriate footwear and bring adequate water, hat, snacks and rain gear, just in case as elevation is around 8,300’.
The hike will be led by Sam Hitt, Santa Fe Forest Coalition, and Nancy Haverkos, Northern Outings leader.
