About us
Hi, I'm Roman — an amateur photographer who loves photo walks so much I decided to start organizing them. I used to do this with a friend, just the two of us. Now I want to open it up — to expand my own vision and help others discover theirs.
Here's the idea. We pick one place — a street, a park, a pier, anywhere in Santa Monica or nearby. We meet, and then we just walk. Your job is to look. Find something interesting in that space. Lines, people, geometry, puddles, shadows, whatever catches your eye. Shoot it your way. Everyone has the same conditions, the same place, the same light.
You get about an hour. Walk alone or together, move however feels right. It's closer to street photography than anything else — just wandering and seeing. But the magic is that we're all in the same spot, and every single person sees something different. That difference is the whole point. Learning to see it is what makes you a better photographer.
After an hour or so we meet back at the starting point, put the photos on a laptop and go through everyone's shots together. We talk about what worked, what we noticed, what surprised us. Same place — completely different images. It's one of the best photography schools I know, because the conditions are equal for everyone.
Participation is completely free. Everyone who loves photography is welcome — beginners, hobbyists, enthusiasts, any level, any camera.
Bring a digital camera if you can — we look at photos together on the spot. Film shooters are welcome too, we just won't see your shots until after you develop. (I love film and want to organize separate film walks where we wait for the scans and meet again to look at them together.)
