About us
Grow and sustain a community of queer (gay, bi, pan, heteroflexible, trans) men who happen to enjoy the outdoors through hiking. SCQMHG is not about heroic mountaineering, but solid intermediate-level hikes, fun companionship, and on occasion, socializing over food and drink. This is not a singles/dating group and attached men are welcome, although if members hit it off then by all means enjoy each other’s company. Allies of queer men also welcome. Let’s get out to enjoy the fresh air, our wonderful natural landscape and views, and make new friends.
Members are encouraged to participate by nominating your favorite Sonoma County hikes and potentially facilitate.
The hikes:
Offer at least one hike a month, typically on the weekend. A new hike/event will be posted at least a week in advance. Offering additional monthly hikes is a possibility.
Typically 4-9 miles in length, appropriate for intermediate-level hikers. Some are appropriate for beginner-level hikers depending on their fitness level. Those who are out of hiking shape should read descriptions carefully and give an honest assessment of fitness level before signing up.
If your plans change after you sign up, please update your RSVP. Hikes may be changed, postponed or cancelled due to excessive heat, smoke/AQI, rain, illness or some other natural disaster.. Check your email the night before for any possible changes.
We will all look out for each other but ultimately, hikers are responsible for their own safety and well-being during hikes.
Dāna
In the spirit of the Buddhist tradition these hikes are offered as a dāna based event. The dāna practice is heart centered and in the spirit of generosity. Cash or giving via Pledge (found on group home page) or even buying the organizer a treat after a hike is graciously accepted.
Release of liability:
By attending any event you agree and understand that hiking is an inherently dangerous activity that you are choosing to attend and waive the organizer(s) of all liability from injury or disease including Covid-19, tick bites, injuries from falls etc.
What To Bring
• Wear appropriate comfortable hiking shoes
• Bring sunscreen and dress appropriate to the weather
