Batik Lampshade Workshop

Another workshop brought to you by the very talented batik artist, Voonbin Pettit.

Have you ever thought about making your own batik lampshade? Join us for a 5 hour batik lampshade workshop where we’ll teach you everything you need to know to paint a beautiful custom batik lampshade.

We'll start with the history of batik and proper use of the tjanting tool to apply wax to define your pattern. Then you’ll learn various techniques to add color and bring your beautiful painting to life. Finally, you’ll learn how to remove the wax and leave with your colorful custom lamp! All materials are provided, including wax, tjanting, fabric dye and lamp. You’ll practice on a 7-inch 100% cotton canvas and your main piece will be a 8-inch tall, 16-inch wide lampshade with LED light and stand, which you’ll take home - a perfect accent for a desk or reading nook.

Schedule:
• 12:00–12:15 PM – Introduction to batik
• 12:15 –12:30 PM – Learn how to use the tjanting
• 12:30–2:00 PM – Wax (mencanting) your lampshade design
• 2:00–3:30 PM – Learn batik coloring techniques
• 3:30–4:30 PM – Remove wax and install batik piece to lampshade frame
• 4:30–5:00 PM – Wrap up

Note: Light snacks and drinks will also be provided during the session.
