POSTING ON BEHALF OF THE CALIFORNIA STATE DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION
Santa Susana Pass State Historic Park Interpretive Stagecoach Trail Hike (session two of the Simi Hills Naturalist Training) Saturday, January 17
Difficulty level: Difficult
Start time: 10:00 AM
End time: 1:00 PM
Hike Leader: Richard

RSVP is required to attend. The fee is $15 for the session, or $50 if you plan to participate in the series. Payment can be made in-person at the event, or online at FPSSM PayPal. Please type "Naturalist Training" in the notes if you use PayPal.

This Stagecoach Trail differs from our public hikes in the following ways: 1) more intensive focus on history and longer interpretive stops along the route; 2) specifically designed for those who want a deep dive into the history; and 3) the event is three hours instead of two hours.

This is a difficult hike due to uneven terrain and steep slopes. A walking stick or trekking poles are recommended. However, the session facilitator will hike the route at a slow and gentle pace (this is not a fitness hike).

Meet at the Larwin trailhead, 10259 Larwin St. Chatsworth, 91311. Take Devonshire west (past Topanga Canyon and toward the Simi Hills). Larwin is the street before the entrance into Chatsworth Park South. Take a left and look for the power pole, opening in the chain link fence, and a uniformed facilitator.

Park on the street. DO NOT follow the online directions to the State Park because it will take you to a different entrance.

Wear sunscreen and long pants because the brush is thick and sticky. A light jacket or long-sleeved shirt is also recommended. Although we try to avoid poison oak, sometimes it is encountered. Wear sturdy hiking boots. A walking stick is preferred by some hikers. Bring plenty of water. A hat is also recommended.

Well-behaved dogs are welcome as long as they are on leash. Please remember to bring enough water for your four-legged friend. All minors must be accompanied by an adult.

Temperatures above 90 degrees, dense fog, rain (even light rain), and red flag warnings cancel the event.
