Invasive Weed Removal on the River Trail - Sun Oct 5th, 9am to 11am
Details
Hello fellow weeding enthusiasts!
This Sunday will be our 12th weekly weed cleanup along the River Trail, and we are making an amazing amount of progress! Thank you to all who have come and worked so hard!!
We will meet a little way down the trail from Frenchy's Footbridge, it's about a 7 to 10 minute walk, almost at the halfway point between Frenchy's Bridge and Siler Bridge.
Come for as little or as long as you'd like, no need to stay the entire time.
The progress we've been making is very noticeable, and there are still quite a few weeds! We'll be removing Kochia and Russian Thistle (aka tumbleweeds) as well as goathead, horehound, Siberian elms, Tree of Heaven and more. This is an opportunity to learn how to identify these pesky weeds if you're not familiar with them as well as what to do with them (i.e. do they need to be thrown out or can they be left on the ground? Come and find out! It's also a chance to learn more about native plants and how to foster their success. We may also have opportunities to collect seeds from native plants to take home to our own gardens or to scatter them along the river trail.
Please bring your favorite weeding tools, hat. gloves and water. I'll have some loaner tools, buckets and a tarp as well as some seeds so that we can do some re-seeding in the areas where the weeds have been removed.
You can park at Frenchy's Field parking lot at 2001 Agua Fria St and walk to the footbridge from there, or you can park on Via Manzana (see pin below). Or ride your bike if you live in the area. Call or text (505)930-2298 if you have any trouble finding us.
Come help us show our wonderful River Trail some love!
