Sunset On Arlington & Cathedral Peak, Night Descent Dragon’s Back Scrambling

Dragon’s Back scrambling to Arlington Peak & Cathedral Peak is exciting and very scenic. A great workout in beautiful nature. This is one of Santa Barbara's most exciting places for hiking, scrambling, climbing and exploring, with great views overseeing Santa Barbara and the Pacific Ocean below. I have been here many times, however, this will be my first time observing the sun setting from this hilltop. I expect the sun setting to be amazingly beautiful.

Night descent with headlight on this very rocky terrain is only for those with lots of experience in scrambling and in effective use of headlight. And have the ability to assess and manage risk effectively.

Fellow hikers & explorers that meet the criteria below for experience, skill, ability, personality, character, and mindset, are welcomed to join.

Date: Friday, Sept 5, 2025

Time Frame: 2:00 pm - 09:30 pm, descending after sunset in the dark

Trailhead: Inspiration Point Trailhead

Distance & Climb: 6 mile, 2500’

Experience & Skill: rocky & uneven terrain hiking, scrambling, bouldering and rock climbing

Ability: assess and manage all risks effectively

Physical & Mental: healthy, fit & agile for hiking & exploring adventure

Supply & Equipment: headlight 2 sets & with sufficient runtime, backup batteries, adequate water, food, windbreaker for night descent as needed, navigation apps, basic first aid kit

Personality & Character: authentic, cordial and pleasant to chat with, trustworthy, integrity, collaborative, sincere, effective in communicating

Mindset: adventurous yet very safety conscious, self responsible & self accountable, intellectually curious, independent thinking, open-minded worldview.
