Tucked into the hills above San Luis Obispo, this outing blends a scenic creekside hike with one of the area’s most unique creative spaces. We’ll follow the shaded trail along Brizzolara Creek, winding through oaks and sycamores as the canyon gradually opens up.

Our destination is the Cal Poly Architecture and Engineering Design Village — an open-air collection of imaginative, student-built structures. Established in the 1960s under former dean George Hasslein, this space brings California Polytechnic State University’s “Learn by Doing” philosophy to life through hands-on, large-scale design.

After exploring the village, we’ll continue onto the surrounding hills for wider views and a more complete loop.

Plan: 6–8 miles total
Pace: Moderate to brisk (~3.5 mph) with time to explore
Vibe: A mix of relaxed discovery and steady movement through beautiful terrain

Come for the hike, stay for the creativity woven into the landscape.
