Bridge to Nowhere & Devil’s Gulch Falls Exploratory Hike
Details
Explore. Observe. Discover
Join us for a full day of hiking, exploration, and discovery in one of Southern California’s most unique wilderness destinations.
We’ll hike the East Fork Trail to the iconic Bridge to Nowhere, then continue exploring Devil’s Gulch Falls and sections of the East Fork of the San Gabriel River. Along the way we’ll experience beautiful canyon scenery, flowing water, dramatic rock formations, river environments, and opportunities to explore beyond the standard trail.
This is more than a destination hike. It is an opportunity to move through a wild landscape, challenge ourselves physically, observe the natural environment, and enjoy meaningful conversations along the way.
We explore not simply to see new places, but to understand them more deeply.
Distance / Elevation Gain:
- Up to 12 miles round trip
- Up to 2,000 feet of elevation gain
Location:
Sheep Mountain Wilderness & Angeles National Forest

In addition to the established East Fork Trail, portions of our exploration may include:

- Boulder scrambling and climbing over natural terrain
- Wading through shallow water
- Traversing uneven and rocky surfaces

The exact route and extent of exploration will depend on weather, water levels, terrain conditions, and overall safety considerations.
This hike is intended for people who are comfortable with:
- Hiking on rocky and uneven terrain
- Creek crossings and getting wet
- Basic scrambling and route finding
- A full day of physical activity in a wilderness environment
No technical climbing equipment is required, but confidence, agility, and good judgment on challenging terrain are important.

Please share a little about your hiking experience, what interests you about this adventure, and anything else you’d like us to know about your outdoor background.
Group Culture
We enjoy exploring beyond simply reaching the destination. Along the way we share observations, exchange ideas, and have thoughtful conversations about nature, science, travel, life, and whatever else sparks our curiosity.
Respect for different perspectives, genuine curiosity, good judgment, and a collaborative spirit are all part of the experience.
Please bring:
- Sufficient water and electrolytes, or a reliable water filtration system
- Food and snacks
- Footwear suitable for getting wet
- Sun protection
- Layers appropriate for changing conditions
- Reliable headlamp
- Trekking poles recommended
Important:
- Water crossings are expected
- Conditions can change depending on weather and river levels
- The route and pace may be adjusted based on safety considerations
- This is a collaborative wilderness outing, not a guided trip
