October 2019 Tech Talk

This month's tech talk will feature SBHX Members Dallon Penney and Henry Biliniewicz.

Dallon will present a 15-20 minute talk on The all-vanadium redox flow battery (VRFB). Advantages of this system include large depth of discharge of up to 90% compared to most solid state batteries with a maximum of 80%, long life cycles at up to 20,000 cycles compared to the upper limit of solid state batteries at up to 5,000, aqueous electrolyte which is naturally fireproof, high stability at all levels of charge and discharge.

Henry will be presenting a 15-20 minute talk on his project of building a lathe from scratch. The lathe is powered by an upcycled treadmill motor, and built from steel and cast concrete. He will also be covering casting granite resin for use in machine tools.
