Nordic Walking is a way to go for a nice walk and use not only the normal leg muscles that are the only muscles used in normal walking, running, or biking, but to also use the arms and upper body muscles to “push”, through specially designed poles on each step. Nearly 90% of the body’s muscles are fully activated on each step, burning more calories, improving cardiovascular function, and reducing strain on hips and knees. Nordic Walking helps improve balance, posture, and spine alignment. It is easy and fun and can be done anywhere you can walk, with friends, or alone.

This training program will consist of meeting on THREE consecutive Saturdays, at three different local walking venues. The exact times and locations of the second and third sessions will be determined during the first training session. Only the first session will be scheduled on Meetup.

During this first session attendees will be shown the correct 10-step method for Nordic Walking, and will practice these correct procedures with “loaner” poles provided for this event. Attendees will also be given a handout, at the event, which contains important information, including a discount code for the purchase of their own Nordic Walking poles. The basic Nordic Walking procedures will be practiced and reviewed within a relatively close area covering the differences between paved and non-paved walking areas.

During the second training session, the standard Nordic Walking procedures will be reviewed, and the practice walk area will be extended with focus on both paved and unpaved walking areas.

In addition to a review of the correct Nordic Walking procedures, the final training session will include appropriate pre and post exercise stretches and will include a much longer Nordic Walk on a paved walkway.

Loaner poles are available for all three training sessions and those who purchase their own Nordic Walking poles and receive them will receive assistance in sizing their poles.

To insure that each attendee receives the appropriate attention from the instructor, this training event is limited to 5 attendees plus the Instructor.

Please wear comfortable weather appropriate clothing and good walking shoes.

This event will be re-scheduled, if there is inclement weather, including rain, strong winds, or temperatures below 55f degrees at the scheduled time.

The training fee for each attendee is a total of $200 and covers the cost for all three training sessions, less any specified discounts. The training fee must be paid in cash or check at the beginning of the first training session.

Sam DG— does not sell Nordic Walking poles, but, during the first training session, information will be provided as to the best options for purchasing your own Nordic Walking poles, as well as suggested vendors.

Parking can be difficult, so I suggest coming early.
