In this 30 minute, or so, presentation and demonstration you will learn the answers to these questions and will understand what makes Nordic Walking so special and how it may help you to more easily and effectively achieve your health and fitness goals.

Nordic Walking is a way to go for a nice walk and use not only the normal leg muscles that are the only muscles used in walking, running, or biking, but to also use the arms and upper body muscles to “push”, through specially designed pole/”glove” combination, on each step.

By “pushing” through with these poles against their full body weight, the walker is now fully activating nearly 90% of their body’s muscles on each step. This causes more calories to be burned, improves cardiovascular function, and significantly reduces strain on hips and knees, while aiding in improved balance.

Nordic Walking is an easy to do exercise that is fun and can be done anywhere you can walk, with friends, or alone.

In this introductory talk, Sam, the American Nordic Walking Association Certified Nordic Walking Instructor, in addition to answering your questions, will discuss the history and medical benefits of Nordic Walking which is why Physical Therapists often recommend it to so many of their patients. He will also demonstrate the proper 10 step Nordic Walking technique and will explain how he schedules and conducts the formal training.

For those who may wish to immediately begin their formal Nordic Walking training, about 30 minutes after this presentation, the first class will begin.

Details about this first class and early sign-up are available in the Meetup group called ***Sarasota Nordic Walking Friends for Health and Fitness*** under the event entitled, **Class # 1 – Learn the correct Nordic Walking method**, listed for later that morning for the same day and location. Please be aware that payment for this training is required to attend the **Class # 1.** Loaner poles will be provided for attendees.

If you are anxious to start doing this fantastic new form of exercising, then, because attendance at **Class # 1** is limited to **five individuals**, early sign-up on the meetup event may be beneficial.
