Let's head north for a hike at Little Red! I'm aiming for 15-20kms. There are some ups and downs on this hike so I will label this an intermediate level event.
Little Red River Trails has 30+ kms of trails that are used for skiing in the winter and hiking in the summer. One of the main features of this park is the Little Red River that twists and turns through mixed wood forests before emptying into the North Saskatchewan River.
Weather in May will probably be warm, possibly hot, so dress appropriately. Avoid cottons particularly in terms of shirts and socks.
Bring lots of water: minimum of 2 litres. We will stop for a few breaks along the way as well as a lunch, so bring a sandwich and something to give you energy (ie - bananas, nuts, power bars).
Hiking shoes/boots are strongly recommended. Poles are optional but also recommended.
On the way home we will stop for some food, either at the Knotty Pine bistro or at Jake's Burger.
Meet @ Tim Hortons in Lawson Heights, 8:15am. We will carpool from there.
