Cypress Hills West Block- Camping & Hiking.

Details
Camp
West Block campsite is rustic. Without cell service, electricity or water! It is 5 hours from Saskatoon. Some sites are in the forest and others are in a large unshaded field. There is usually potable water available at nearby (1km)ranger station but bring 10-12L and a water filter in case this is not possible. A creek is adjacent, and water filtration may be possible, but this depends on water levels. There are firepits. It’s a good idea to rely on a stove for cooking as fire ban may be in effect.
Hikes
Saturday: Sask side 10-15km. Possibly this one:

Sunday: Reesor Lake to Elkwater area 20km(Alberta side). Extension of this one:

Monday: shorter hike before return to Saskatoon.
Transport: we will carpool. Passengers contribute to fuel costs. We will leave from Tim Hortons 11th St/Dawes Ave noon Friday July 25th.
Gear: bring your own tent, sleeping stuff, and hiking gear. Maybe a chair as not all sites have picnic tables.
Food: bring your own food. 3 breakfasts, 3 trail lunches & snacks, 3 camp suppers, beverages. Lots of water. There are no stores nearby. It’s a good idea to rely on a stove for cooking as fire ban may be in effect.
Money: Cash, cheque or credit card to pay for campsite. It’s not reservable so we will pay there by envelope. Roughly $60/person for the campground. Last time I went it was $18/night but it may have gone up. In addition, fuel costs will to be determined by the drivers. Of course, you also need a provincial park pass.
First Aid: Each participant is responsible for their own first aid.
Water shoes can be a good idea in case we find some lakes or creeks to swim.
For day hikes you’ll need 2-3L water. It might be hot. Hikes will range from 10 to 20km, mostly on trails, with moderate up and downs and possibly some bushwacking. Forecasts can change quickly!
