What we're about
Welcome to the Sassy, Adventurous, & Soulful Sisterhood (S.A.S.S.)! This is a group where black women and our supporters can come together as friends, sisters, and confidants as we share ideas, care, and laughter with one another.
Who We Are: We are a social and empowerment network for black women. We seek to uplift one another and participate in activities that focus on the mental, physical, emotional, financial, social, intellectual, and spiritual well-being of the black woman. We also seek to foster supportive and meaningful friendships among our members. We are young, old, mothers, daughters, introverts, extroverts, wives, girlfriends, single women, lawyers, doctors, cashiers, secretaries, engineers, waitresses, executives, and most of all SISTERS.
Why We Exist: We exist in response to the shortage of social networks for women of color in this region. Meeting other sisters in OKC can be a challenge, especially for those new to the area. We appreciate every culture but realize the advantages of also having a black female collective. Too often we feel isolated from the dominant society in social settings and attempt to navigate our surroundings alone. This is not good! We all desire a sense of belonging, and for women, friendships have been shown to reduce stress and increase joy in one’s life. Hence, S.A.S.S. exists to give locals and transplants of African American descent a sense of family and belonging.
What We Do: We participate in a variety of activities that may include but not limited to think tanks, fitness activities, spiritual gatherings, dancing, dining out, brunch, heritage festivals, art walks, career and academic workshops, movies, travel, community service, activism, game nights, happy hours, women expos, spoken word, live shows, and much more! We may also share recipes and meal plans, learn self defense, teach each other how to sew, grow a garden of food, become coupon queens, and anything else that promotes self-sustainment. The group is very open to activity and event suggestions!
So if you’re a sister in search of a social outlet that can provide you with opportunities for fun, self-healing, and growth, then join S.A.S.S. as we would love to have you!
When you RSVP please try to be a woman of your word. I understand that life sometimes gets in the way. In these cases, please change your RSVP within at least 2 hours before the event. If you RSVP YES to an event and fail to show up 3 times, then you may be removed from the group. If you have not attended an event in 3 months, then you may be removed from the group. This is to ensure that the group regularly consists of active members. Remember that one goal of this group is to foster friendships, and friendships cannot grow when members are not meeting often. It is quality not quantity of my members that is important. ~Peace and blessings~
