What we’re about
HEALING • SHARING • PERSONAL GROWTH
“All you’ll be you are today”
MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS:
- women only (transgender women are welcome)
- age 40 and up
- a fairly recent, recognizable photo
- group questions must be answered
This group is private. Non-members cannot see your answers nor the locations of our events. I ask for your email because some people don’t ever see Meetup messages, and I want to know I can contact everyone.
We are all equal in this group. Some of us are going thru hard times, some of us have been thru hard times, and for some the hard times are coming. Women find strength in sharing. Maybe you’ll meet someone who you’d like to talk to one-on-one, not in a group situation. This group is not a substitute for professional therapy, counseling, or medical treatment. But some of us simply don’t have anyone to talk to about personal issues and maybe can’t afford a therapist. Participants are welcome to share only what they are comfortable with—disclosing a mental health diagnosis or personal information is not required to join or participate. I ask all members to maintain respect, confidentiality, and kindness to ensure a positive experience for everyone.
Examples of events for this group:
– brunches, lunches, dinners, coffee/tea
– festivals / fairs / farmers markets
– walking / birding
– doggy play dates
– historical sites / state parks / beach
– photography outings (those who are interested)
– volunteering
– bowling / miniature golf
– day trips
• This group will start out as a social group and as we get more members and get to know each other’s strengths and weaknesses we can have more intimate discussions.
• I am hoping to have assistant organizers and we can all have our own specialties. For example, I might do meals, and other women could do walks, a book club, yoga, happy hour, a gardening club, etc.
• Planning outdoor events is pretty easy for me, it’s the indoor (air conditioned!) events I may need help with. I am constantly doing research for ideas.
• I am new in town and since I am solo I do not like to park on the street or in certain areas at night, I also do not like parking garages. I would much rather prefer driving to someone else’s house and riding together. So everything I plan is dependent on the parking situation.
• This is not a Christian group. Of course the majority of members may be Christian, but I welcome and encourage every belief and non-belief mentality to join. Members can describe how their faith got them out of a dark time, but any desire to make disciples will be done on a 1-on-1 basis.
• No-show policy – someone RSVPs for an event and does not show up and does not contact anyone to let us know their change of plans – if you do this twice you will receive a warning. If it happens a 3rd time you will be removed from the group. Since reservations have to be made for most indoor events, no-shows can cause a lot of stress.
It's impossible to please everyone but this group needs to be warm and welcoming to all types of people. If you join and you don't feel it's the right fit for you, I will not be offended if you leave the group.
