What we’re about
This is the official Meetup page of the Save Barton Creek Association (SBCA). We protect the creeks and aquifer of the Barton Springs- Edwards Aquifer through conservation, education, and advocacy.
You can learn more about SBCA on our website at www.savebartoncreek.org. You can further connect by signing up for our monthly e-newsletter and liking us on facebook.
We will meet once or twice a month for hikes along the Greenbelt, volunteer opportunities, and educational outings. We also host SBCA Happy Hours the second week of each month. These Happy Hours feature a speaker related to our mission.
We also hope you will join SBCA by contributing to dialogue on our discussion boards.
We look forward to meeting you, whether you're new to Austin or are a life-long Barton Creek enthusiast.

See all- SBCA Happy Hour Talk: Floodplain Restoration with TreeFolk's Valerie Tamurrila Madeleine, Austin, TX
Come listen to Valerie Tamburri, Director of Reforestation & Lead Arborist from TreeFolks, talk about the ecology and management of riparian areas and discuss TreeFolks' Central Texas Texas Floodplain Restoration Program. She will discuss watersheds, riparian ecology, and best management practices for land owners and stewards to care for these sensitive areas. Then, find out how the nonprofit, TreeFolks, is helping landowners restore degraded riparian forests through the Central Texas Floodplain Reforestation program, and how you can get involved.
Come anywhere from 6:30 pm to 7 pm to get your food ordered and drinks purchased, and to socialize.
Valerie has lived most of her life in Austin, where she gained a deep appreciation for nature through landscape photography and outdoor activities. She has worked in the conservation field for the better part of fifteen years on projects such as habitat restoration, building trails, and disaster response. Valerie has worked on TreeFolks' reforestation team since 2017.
This talk will take place at La Madeleine's restaurant located on Brodie Lane close to the 290 intersection. We will be meeting in a corner sectioned off for us, and we will start the program at 7 pm and after the presentation there will be a time for questions. We will wrap up around 8 pm, but feel free to linger.
