You’ve discovered Saving Throw, a gathering place for curious newcomers, long-lost heroes, and seasoned storytellers alike. Once a month, in the heart of Jersey City at Victory Point, we meet for in-person one-shot tabletop roleplaying games filled with perils, hijinks, and unexpected turns.

No need to pore over dense rulebooks — our quests favor easy-to-learn, rules-light systems where your imagination leads the way. Each session is a fresh tale, from cozy journeys through wondrous lands to investigations of shadowed mysteries. All you need is your curiosity and a willingness to play!

You know the ball celebrating the Cardinal's arrival is tonight, and you know that's the only chance you'll get to find out what's so damned fantastic about the reliquary he always carries with him. There are stories, some of which are more dramatic than others, but there are stories. Of madness, of saints gone rogue, of a religious reform built on a bed of lies. What does that mean to you? Money, maybe. The Church well and thoroughly blackmailed. Or maybe you're a true believer -- a cleric or paladin of the old God that bares little resemblance to the idol worshiped by the Church of the present, eager to see them deposed? Maybe you owed someone a favor -- maybe you're scared for your sister who's stoped sending letters ever since she ordained as a priestess under the Cardinal's scattershot gaze. Maybe FUCK THE GOVERNMENT and FUCK THE CHURCH TOO, with the more fire and gusto, the better? Tonight's the night, though. The only night you can possibly pull this off. How will you band of adventures proceed?

We're starting off our Wednesday One-Shots series with Dungeon World.

Keeping within the high-fantasy confines of dungeon crawler classics, Dungeon World is an easy-to-pick-up-and-play take on the classic classes and feel of games like D&D and Pathfinder, with more of a modern storytelling emphasis than the hack-and-slash of OSR/AD&D revival games.

It's Powered by the Apocalypse, which means it's a 2D6, player-facing game, with emphasis on moving organically scene-to-scene like a TV show or movie, versus digging into the grit of minutiae and resource-heavy gaming. I don't roll for the enemies, how well you roll determines how safely or in peril you and your companions are adventuring. The game goes where the players take it, in the spirit of all PtbA games, although for the purposes of a one-shot, it'll be a touch more guided than many Let's Play takes on world building inside of PtbA games.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING: Yourself! $10 for the Victory Point table fee. A beverage of your choosing, and a desire to play some TTRPGs!
WHAT WILL BE PROVIDED: Dice a plenty, pencils, and printed out character sheets.
