We are Group Recreation, Exploration, Adventures and Travel (G.R.E.A.T), a social group for those year-round weekend warriors, adrenaline junkies, fun seekers extraordinaire with a penchant for living a glow up life with sass, spice and flare through connection, joy, and movement with new friends who share your vibrational frequency 🤗
Our events: In this group, we aim to accomplish GREAT things! Climb that mountain! Book that ticket! Blaze that hiking trail. Take that weekend journey to explore a town you’ve never been to before. Try that new cuisine! Learn a new skill! Volunteer for a worthy cause! Hiking, walks in park, dining out, Broadway shows, museums, happy hours, movie nights, wine tasting, brewery tours, day trips, weekend getaway ... and for the adrenaline junkies, tell your fear to hold your beer because you’re about to jump off that perfectly good airplane! We will do it all! Carpe Diem Baby!
So whether you’re a seasoned adventurer or a total beginner, put on that adventure hat, don’t be shy in taking that first step to escape the ordinary and embrace the extraordinary ... one Meetup at a time 😎😁

Our First Meetup: Hike for Chocolate

For our very first Meetup, let’s head north to experience the beauty of the Hudson Valley with a LEISURELY wintry hike at Dennings Point along the shores of the Hudson River with connecting trails to Klara Sauer trail and Madame Brett Park where you'll find a raging waterfalls that you can explore.
Après hike, there's this AHMAZZING chocolate shop on Main Street in Beacon. You have not lived until you've had this chocolate melt in your mouth. We'll also have dinner in town before we head home with a box of chocolate in tow
ABOUT DENNINGS POINT: Dennings Point is located along a peninsula that juts out into the middle of an incredibly beautiful part of the Hudson Valley. Not only is Dennings Point stunningly beautiful, but it’s also home to several abandoned buildings, great hiking trails, popular fishing spots, and even some pretty amazing history. ABOUT THE KLARA SAUER TRAIL: The Klara Sauer Trail, also known as the Riverfront Trail is a 5.3 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Beacon, New York. It features a waterfall and is good for all skill levels. The trail offers a number of activity options and is best used from March until November. There are several points where you can enjoy a short trail to the Hudson River. This trail gives access to some old abandoned buildings near its end and access to the Dennings Point Trail.
ABOUT MADAME BRETT PARK: Madam Brett Park houses the beautiful Tioronda Falls and offers a short trail along the Fishkill Creek leading to the Fishkill Marsh. This is yet another former industrial site in Beacon that has been transformed into a beautiful area to connect with nature. It is amazing to observe the history of Beacon by just following the Fishkill Creek! Read more about the Park -----> HERE and HERE
GETTING THERE: 8;59am Metro-North out of Grand Central Terminal to Beacon.
AGENDA: The trailhead starts a short walk from the Beacon train station.
PACE: Hiking pace will be LEISURELY AND NO ONE WILL BE LEFT BEHIND. During hike, there'll be lunch, water and snack breaks as needed; as well as taking time to savor the sights and sounds of nature, take photos, hug some trees, and most importantly, socialize with your fellow hikers. NO FAST HIKERS PLEASE!!
THE IMPORTANT STUFF:
- Dress in non-cotton layers.
- Wear appropriate shoes suitable for hiking
- Bring at least 3 liters of liquid to stay hydrated.
- Bring lunch and snacks for yourself.
- Bring sunscreen, bug spray, head cover
- Sense of adventure and a positive attitude are a must. A smile also goes a long way. Please leave the drama and crankiness at home.
DURATION: We will be out for the entire day

Discover Long Island: Brunch then Take a Hike
Huntington LIRR, New York Ave 110 & Broadway, Huntington Station, NY, USLong Island has some very scenic trails as well as some fine dining joints for a hearty meal and booze. Let’s explore some of them
For this Meetup we’ll do something different:
FIRST let’s do brunch at The Shed in Huntington. They don’t take reservations but we’ll be there by 11AM when they open so we’re good.

Après brunch we’ll uber over to Caumsett State Historic Park Preserve for a leisurely hike for fitness, fresh air and camaraderie with friends, old and new. Trails here are beyond easy breezy. There are some minor ups and downs but nothing strenuous. Let's make it a GREAT day
About the Park: Caumsett State Historic Park Preserve, situated on a scenic peninsula extending into Long Island Sound, offers miles of bridle paths, walking, jogging, hiking, biking, cross-country skiing and nature trails over acres of woodland, meadows, rock shoreline and salt marsh.

GETTING THERE: For those without a car, Long Island Railroad (LIRR) to Huntington station then short Uber ride over to The Shed
TRAIN SCHEDULE:
- If you are leaving from PENN STATION in Manhattan: Take the LIRR train leaving at 9:39AM, and arrive at HUNTINGTON STATION at 10:49AM.
- If you are leaving from JAMAICA STATION in Queens: Take the LIRR train leaving at 10:02am and arrive at Huntington Station at 10:49am

OUR AGENDA: We will all arrive in Huntington Station by 10:49, we'll share a 10-min Uber ride to The Shed.
