Santa Monica Beach and Stairs Hike

Details

Hey! It's beginning to be light in the evening!
Have all those extra calories from the holidays motivated you to be more active? Do you need a break from your weekly routine? Are you tired of watching TV in your home every night? Interested in some genuine sea air instead of air recycled through the air conditioner?

Join us for a literal walk in the park, through Palisades Park, Santa Monica's flagship park. Nestled between the cliffs overlooking the beach and Downtown Santa Monica, Palisades Park provides beautiful scenery, walking paths, and views of the ocean and the Santa Monica Skyline.

We will meet at Ocean Avenue and San Vicente Avenue, and warm up with a short walk to the stairs at 4th Street and Adelaide Drive, famous with the Westside fitness crowd. We will then walk south through Palisades Park, passing numerous historical locations and monuments to important and famous people from Santa Monica's colorful past. Crossing Pacific Coast Highway to the famous Santa Monica Pier, we then descend to the beach bike path and go north to Santa Monica Canyon, where we return to the stairs at 4th Street, and then back to our starting point on Ocean Ave.

The path is about 5 1/2 miles, with approximately 500 feet of elevation gain/loss.

After the hike there is an optional post-hike dinner at Baja Fresh on Wilshire and Lincoln Blvds. It is located at the southwest corner of Wilshire and Lincoln. There is free parking behind Baja Fresh, with the entrance off Lincoln, just south of Wilshire Blvd.

Bring comfortable walking shoes, a jacket, and a quart/liter of water.

An inquisitive, easy-going, enthusiastic attitude is always good, too!

Cancellation Policy:
Uhhh, plague, insects, boils, frogs? Natural disaster or rain cancels, but we aren't fair weather hikers. If it is clearing in the afternoon, the hike is on!
