Have you ever wanted to see Yosemite Valley at the peak of the waterfall season? Then this is the trip for you!
Likely, walking on the Mist Trail will require time afterwards to dry off.
Our goal is to explore the almost level Yosemite Valley, which was first protected 150 years ago. We are checking out all the interesting nooks and crannies that most other people miss, learning a bit about the history of the Valley and taking the time to notice what makes this valley truly special. We are eating meals in restaurants and cafeterias, and taking showers in Curry Village. We will go shopping!
Because of space limitations in the bear lockers available, Food can only be brought with special permission (we will make exceptions depending on dietary and health needs). We are going to enjoy the various eateries provided in the valley, and save the locker space for lotions, potions, and other urban essentials.
Included in the price: Campsite space for 3 nights, at least one campfire with marshmallows, One Pizza Dinner, One Degnan's Deli Sandwich Lunch. All other meals will be at your own discretion at one of the eateries or stores. You can choose to purchase food together at a store, but these items will not be allowed in the lockers at night.
Bring: sleeping bag, sleeping pad, warm clothes (it can still be cold in May), tent (or make sharing arrangements beforehand), money or ATM/credit card for food (you should expect to spend at least $10 a meal for 6 additional meals), and comfortable clothing/shoes. If you wish to bring any scented items (including deodorant) it must fit into a medium sized paper bag.
As there are limited parking spaces, priority will be given to carpools of 3. Other cars will be allowed to park based upon number of participants and space available. Extra cars will need to park at overflow lots in the valley.
Our goal isn't to hike everywhere possible, but to enjoy the scenery. To that end, our day will begin around 10 am (allowing people time to get breakfast on their own). A rough itinerary of activities:
Thursday
Arrive by 6 pm and set up your tent.
Eat Pizza Dinner together (included).
Friday
Begin 6 mile Valley loop walk at 10 am, hitting all the gift shops in the valley. Eat Lunch at Degnan's Deli (included) and visit the Ahwahnee, Yosemite Village, Yosemite Falls, Le Conte Lodge, and Curry Village. Finish hike by 5 p.m.
Saturday
Begin 3 to 5 mile hike up Mist Trail to Vernal Falls (optional extension to top of Nevada Falls and a bit beyond) at 10 a.m. Return to Trailhead by 1 p.m.
Sunday
Leave Campsite by 11:30 a.m.
The rest of the time is yours to enjoy the valley (in a law abiding fashion). All hikes/ walks will be on trail with at least 2 leaders.
Leaders: Jose Mendez, Christian Latunos, Regan Lau, Joanna Slusarz
Cancellation Policy: Full Refund if cancellation by April 1, 2014. Refunds thereafter are dependent on Leaders' ability to fill any cancelled spots. No refund if no notice of cancellation prior to May 15, 2014. Any exceptions to this policy will be at the Leaders' discretion and determined after the trip.
Cancellation Policy:
Catastrophic closure of Yosemite Valley cancels
