What we’re about
We're an attempt at a grassroots extension of the Society of Creative Anachronism (SCA, https://www.sca.org/) into Japan.
The SCA is a medieval recreation group, meaning we research pre-1600 cultures and attempt to recreate them in a living history setting. What this means in practice is that we love dressing up in medieval clothes, singing songs around campfires, and having swordfights while camping in a field!
Over here, as we lack enough active members in Japan to form an official branch, our goal is to just get camping events going. The current timeline looks to be starting in Spring 2026, with weekend camping events. We plan to rent out parks for the events so as to not disturb anyone at the local campgrounds, so there will be fees to cover the costs.
Anyone is free to join, but an effort must be made to look medieval when at an event! This 'effort' can be as simple as wearing a renaissance outfit bought off of Amazon (or since we're in Japan, second-hand kimono and hakama work well too!), but it can also be as advanced as researching how a 8th century Viking would dress and recreating it from scratch!
Some basic rules are as follows:
- Wear an attempt at medieval garb and assume modern clothes to not exist (If you show up in jeans, we're gonna tell you to put pants on!)
- Refrain from using modern tech as much as possible (Tents are an exception, as are essential technologies; just try to make an effort to hide them when possible! Put a plastic table or cooler under a drapecloth, for example!)
- Have as much fun as possible while supporting other peoples' fun!
We welcome both foreigners and Japanese people, and will have bilingual people on site!
私たちは、創造的時代錯誤協会（SCA、 https://www.sca.org/）の草の根的な日本への拡大を試みる団体です。
SCAは中世再現団体であり、1600年以前の文化を研究し、生きた歴史の場で再現しようと試みています。具体的には、中世の衣装に身を包み、キャンプファイヤーを囲んで歌を歌い、野原でキャンプをしながら剣術の試合を楽しむことが私たちの喜びです！
日本では公式支部を設立できるほど活動メンバーが不足しているため、当面の目標はキャンプイベントの開催です。現時点の予定では2026年春から週末キャンプイベントを開始する見込みです。地元のキャンプ場利用者に迷惑をかけないよう公園を貸し切るため、費用負担として参加費を頂戴します。
誰でも自由に参加できますが、イベントでは中世風に見えるよう努力が必要です！この「努力」は、Amazonで購入したルネサンス衣装を着る（日本なら中古の着物や袴も良い！）という簡単なものでも構いませんが、8世紀のバイキングの服装を研究し、一から再現するといった高度なものでも構いません！
基本的なルールは以下の通りです：
- 中世風の衣装を身につけ、現代の服は存在しないものとする（ジーンズで現れたら、ズボンをはくよう注意します！）
- 現代のテクノロジーは可能な限り使用を控えること（テントや必須技術は例外。ただし可能な限り隠す努力を！例えばプラスチック製のテーブルやクーラーボックスを布で覆うなど）
- 他の参加者の楽しみを応援しつつ、自分自身も最大限楽しむこと！
外国人・日本人問わず大歓迎！会場にはバイリンガルスタッフが常駐します！
