After a short break, we're excited to announce Scala Central is returning on the 31st of July and will be hosted at the Permutive offices in Old Street!

LinuxRecruit and Permutive have partnered up as organisers moving forward to ensure the meetup gets better and better for the community, giving a range of topics and talks for the Scala community.

We'd like to host a summer treat for you all so we're giving a break from the usual format by hosting a summer Tiki party followed by a 30-40 minute talk by Travis Brown!

Timings will follow as below;

6:30 pm - Doors Open

Food, Drinks and entertainment will be provided.

7:30 pm - Intro from Joe Petterson - VP Engineering, Permutive

7:40 pm - Talk by Travis Brown

Travis maintains Circe, iteratee.io, and a handful of other open-source projects, and has written Scala at Twitter, Stripe, and the University of Maryland.

Library design for Dotty: a preview of Cats and Circe in 2021.

Travis maintains Circe, iteratee.io, and a handful of other open-source projects, and has written Scala at Twitter, Stripe, and the University of Maryland.

The upcoming 0.16.0 Dotty release introduces many language features that will change how we write type-safe code in Scala, including polymorphic function types, new syntax for type class instance definitions, and a new generic derivation mechanism. In this talk, we'll look at a few of these features in the context of an experimental port of Cats and Circe to Dotty.

8:10 pm - 8:30pm - Questions

And afterward... more Tiki time!

There are limited spaces so please make sure to update your RSVP if you're not able to attend.

We look forward to seeing you all soon!

Thanks,

Alice, Tony, and the Scala Central team.
