I wanted to warmly welcome you to the first Scala Porto meetup, we are extremely glad to start the knowledge sharing in the north of Portugal. So far most of our meetups have taken place in Lisboa and it’s time to change that! Let’s kickstart the PORTO Scala journey.💕

Lagom Framework: from a simple introduction to complex use-cases
Abstract
We all love to build high-performant and functional systems in Scala but how about building large systems? How do we ensure that we meet all the best microservice patterns and still keep high productivity? In this talk we will see how we can bootstrap a scalable and resilient project with Lagom Framework, using features out of the box like asynchronous communication and streaming.

Play vs Akka HTTP vs http4s
Abstract
The Scala language and its environment provide different approaches to tackle the same problem. Here, the problem is the traditional backend HTTP REST API, and the different approaches are the full-blown framework Play, the tool kit Akka HTTP and the functional http4s. This talk hopes to provide the notion of which approach better suits one’s needs and style.
We are going to finish with the networking session with pizzas and beers that will be sponsored by Growin and Dott. đź‘Ź
