What we’re about

This is a meetup for people interested in performing real-time analytics using the Berkeley Data Analytics stack via the scala programming language. Berkeley Data Analytics stack (BDAS) is a set of software components optimised for performing real-time analytics on large datasets (Big Data). The most interesting components for data-analytics in the BDAS stack are Apache Spark and Apache Mesos. Apache Spark™ is a fast and general engine for large-scale data processing. (https://spark.apache.org/) Apache Mesos is a cluster manager that simplifies the complexity of running applications on a shared pool of servers. (http://mesos.apache.org/) Apache Cassandra is a distributed NoSQL data store. The Apache Cassandra database is the right choice when you need scalability and high availability without compromising performance. (http://cassandra.apache.org/) This meetup will hold discussions / sessions on the exciting new use cases in real time analytics made possible by BDAS. In addition, this group will also occasionally have discussions on the Scala programming language and functional programming. No prior scala experience required.
