Monthly Meeting - Program: Digital Insect Collecting, by Richard Palmer

Details

Would you like to collect insects, but don't want to bother with storing the delicate specimens and keeping them from being eaten up by other insects? Scarab treasurer Richard Palmer has the deal for you! He'll tell us all about his system for documenting the insects he sees with the camera, while at the same time keeping full scientific data about each one.

Richard collects insects with his camera. He's not an expert on this, but he enjoys it immensely and is continually learning about the world of insects, and more! These are the topics his presentation will cover:

• Traditional vs. Digital Insect Collection

• Data that Needs to be Collected (besides the picture)

• Knowledge Challenges

• Equipment

• Techniques for Photographing Insects in situ

• The Process from the Trail Head to the Upload of my Photographs

All of this ultimately results (sometimes, when he's lucky) in additions to the vast online database that is BugGuide.net (http://bugguide.net). Come see how Richard does it.

As always, all are welcome at our meetings, whether members or not. (Dues paying (http://crawford.tardigrade.net/Scarabs.html) members get a newsletter by postal mail).

RSVP if you want an email reminder. Otherwise, just show up!
