Scarabs Field Trip to McCollum Park (just south of Everett, Washington)

Details
No Lecture Meeting in June! Instead, an In-Person Field Trip!
Some of you have asked about in-person meetings again. Although we have no immediate plans for going back to in-person meetings, this field trip is IN-PERSON! Come meet fellow Scarabs while searching for and learning about bugs!
Trip is on if it's dry or just drizzling, but cancelled if there is REAL rain.
Join two retired cooperative extension entomologists (Dave Pehling and Sharon Collman) as they scour trees and weeds of the park to find the tiny wee bugs hiding in plain sight. Learn who eats what and spot the telltale signs of different insect groups, including woolly aphids, leaf rollers and if lucky, sawfly larvae. If lucky we’ll witness the destruction of tansy ragwort by a biocontrol agent! We’ll also check the detention ponds to see who’s in the water. Dave may even try his hand with the mosquito dipper! If Rod is not doing other field work, he will point out the many interesting spiders. Expect to break into small groups to check out different habitats.
If you have a magnifying glass, be sure to bring it as the bugs are indeed on the small side. A container or two would come in handy as well. Wear clothes & shoes that can get dirty/wet. Wear a hat & sun screen and bring water and an energy snack because all that bug-searching can work up an appetite! Trip over by 4:30.
If you plan to attend (in person, remember), and are NOT a subscriber to our newsletter, please RSVP here. Slots are limited, so if you get the newsletter you can see all details there, and you might want to leave the RSVP slots to non-subscribers.
Driving directions: Take I-5 to Exit 186 (128th St SE) in Everett, head east about 0.3 miles, then make a right turn into the park. Further details in "How to Find Us" which you can access after you RSVP.
