Future of Scarabs (a discussion) — Followed by Videos
Details
Beginning in September, every issue of Scarabogram (the print newsletter sent to paying members) has had a request for someone to replace Scarab Kulzer as program coordinator. The response has been zero! One result is we have no speaker this month. High Scarab Collman points out that the same people have done the jobs of presiding over the group, arranging programs, and newsletter production since the 1980s. And we are getting old! All things are mortal, and Scarabs may prove likewise if some less-aged ones don't step in to do their part. So this month's meeting will begin with an open discussion, free to full (dues-paying) members and Meetup members alike if they can contribute, on how to give the old Bug Society some much-needed CPR.
If time allows, the discussion will be followed by a short program of online videos that you should find enjoyable:
• Japanese Beetle basics: it's just as well to know about this notorious pest as it now has 2 beachheads in our state!
• Flyin' in the Rain: for tiny creatures a raindrop can be a major trauma. How do they manage?
• Ladybug secrets: these ultra voracious predators have secret weapons!
• Ancient heritage of dragonflies
Scarabs' new Zoom Czar, Matt Neumann, has created a special link you can click to get to each month's Scarabs session, regardless if the specific meeting ID changes. You should get this link (or it will become visible) if you RSVP here (passcode is 816620). If you attend by phone, you'll need the old-fashioned numerical Zoom code, and anyone doing that should refer to their print newsletter (or, if not a subscribing member, contact us well ahead of time please!). Go to Zoom not long before the meeting starts, otherwise the link may not be active. And if anything about this new system misfires, tell us so we can trouble-shoot for next time!
