For 8 years, David has been sampling for butterflies on the Mountain Loop Highway, in the butterfly "desert" known as Snohomish County. Could it be that no butterflies actually occur there? Or is it that no one's been looking? David will regale you with his tales from the Mountain Loop Highway, its enchanting trails, and the many surprises he has found. As part of his report, David has been collecting data on plants - what flowers are the butterflies using most often? Where do you find the most butterflies in these deep dark woods? It may just inspire you to create your own survey!
[The following bio of David seems to appear everywhere:] David Droppers has been teaching courses on topics from birds to butterflies to trees to microorganisms for a variety of groups, including college biology courses and non-profit environmental groups. He has put his expertise to work for the National park Service, Forest Service, University of Washington, and Woodland Park Zoo, among many others. He is ecstatic about sharing his passion for the natural world with others who wish to learn. His enthusiasm is said to be contagious! David received his Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science and Resource Management from the University of Washington, and his Master's degree in Environmental Education from Western Washington University.
